Seika 清佳

Seika is a private single-level townhouse in central Kyoto, set on a quiet residential lane a few streets west of the Kamo River and a short way south of Gojo. The house offers 85.9 m² for up to six guests across three separate bedrooms, with a full kitchen, a raised-floor living room, a bathroom with a deep soaking tub, and two washlet restrooms. Behind a cedar-clad frontage, the interior is finished in warm timber, hand-troweled plaster and softly backlit screens - a calm, contemporary reading of a traditional Kyoto house rather than a museum piece.

The sleeping plan suits families and small groups who want their own rooms. One bedroom has a queen bed and two have single beds, each with its own desk, hanging rail and air conditioning. In the living room, a custom timber sofa opens into two further single beds, bringing the house to six. A washer/dryer, an IH kitchen stocked with ceramics, glassware and cutlery, and a desk in every bedroom make Seika as workable for a fortnight as for a weekend.
